sleeping girlSleeping late has never been a thing for me, and as my dear old father used to say, what’s the point of sleeping your life away, wake up and live it! So, waking up early is what I’ve always done.

I used to wake up around 06:30, and in the summer it was before five o’clock, but during this past week I’ve woken up every day at exactly 05:55 AM! Going to bed earlier or later doesn’t appear to make the slightest difference!

I remember having a conversation a couple of years back with GC where I complained about my lack of sleep, his advice was…

  • Switch off your electronic devices before going to bed.
  • Do not to use your iPad or phone last thing at night.
  • Do not switch on the devices the moment you wake up.

The idea behind this thinking was to re-train my brain into accepting my bedroom as a place to relax and sleep. It was an excellent plan, but me being me I ignored the advice until a couple of nights ago. I switched off fifteen minutes before going to bed and did not switch on again until over an hour after waking up.

Sitting in bed doing nothing seemed such a waste of time; I once read that the first two hours of the day are the most productive, so I decided to give it a try. I did not check my websites, nor did I check the Reader, though I did answer two e-mails.

By 10:00 AM, I had two laundry loads completed, I’d been out with Woody, the evening meal was cooking in the slow cooker, I’d cleaned the kitchen and the fridge, taken the garbage to the bins and was ready for getting my head down and having a nap!

By seven-thirty in the evening, I still hadn’t checked the Reader, and I’d dismissed the idea of any type of nap. Feeling even more productive I’d also written and published an article for my Nan’s Farm site, and changed my profile photograph three times before deciding the old one was the best after all, and I continued knitting the current Joey pouch!

Things still felt out of sync I was out of my routine and I felt guilty for not reading everyone else’s posts, although I’d answered notifications of comments as and when they popped up on my phone. So, upon waking up this morning, I switched on my iPad and finally caught up with my Reader.

Gerry was quite right, I should carve out a new routine and one that doesn’t involve waking up early each morning and going online!

Oh, and if you read my post yesterday, the new data switch hasn’t made the slightest difference to my television and Sky TV broadband problems, so I’ve reluctantly booked a call-out!

And the fridge was bareMy almost empty fridge contains, one potato, a bowl of washed lettuce, two onions, cheese, a pack of bacon and a variety of pickles; enough for a meal I’d say! On the other hand, perhaps I should abandon my online plans for this afternoon and go shopping!

Today I had a go at taking a macro shot of my solitary potato for the ragtag community prompt, it didn’t work out too well! My flowers are much better subjects!

  1. Murphy's Law

I take my dog Murphy out for her ‘last call’ at 10:00pm…..every night. I check that doors are locked, etc., climb in bed by 10:10pm, and I’m in a coma by 10:15pm…..every night. I get up at 5:30am and start my day, which isn’t nearly as busy as yours. I think Gerry is right. You need to find a new routine that you’re happy with and stick to it religiously.

Your veggies look so lonely Sue! I hope you went shopping and brought home some friends for them. Lol.

Your macro shot of the potato looks like the shoulder of an oddly tanned person with an abundance of age spots!! 🤗🤗 The Flower is gorgeous!!

    1. Well, the potato is getting on in age!
Bedtime for me varies but usually around 11:00 PM and I fall asleep straight away. I sleep fairly well, but it’s a long day when I wake up so early. If I go out early I get caught up in morning traffic so I try to avoid that.
I agree with you, I should stay away from all my devices until I’ve been up a couple of hours.
Thank you so much Ginger, have a lovely weekend 🙂

  2. I don’t do computer in bed. (my computer is “tied to the wall” in my home office with electrical cords! Ha!)
I don’t get on my phone in bed.
I don’t have an iPad or any other device.
    I don’t read in bed.
I don’t have a TV in the bedroom.
The bed is for two things, and two things only. 🙂 😀

My morning routine does not involve my computer…unless I need it for work. But then I only use it for work. Then after work I start chores and then get online to check news, e-mail, and WP. (WP is the only social media site I chose to have anything to do with.)
I might be a dinosaur in that I don’t Tweet, InstaG, TheFaceBook, Tumble, etc. 🙂 (HA! Those are the nicknames I’ve given those social media sites! 😉 )
Although, on occasion, I do Goggle or listen to videos on ITubeYouTubeWeAllTube! 😉 😛
There are just too many other fun things I’d rather be doing!

Ha! I think you had just the perfect ingredients for a meal! I think a potato is a lovely meal! And you had a potato AND some cool toppings! 😉 🙂
Your tater and flower photos are wonderful!
    HUGS!!! 🙂
PS…But I do get that everyone has to have their own devices-rountine. 🙂 I just think many of our young adults can’t sleep well, or get to sleep well, because their devices are all in the bed with them. 😦

    1. I probably have too many devices. Computer, laptop, iPad and iPhone, plus TVs in every room, Unfortunately I’m a gadget person who loves the convenience of being online where ever I happen to be.

I used to do all manner of social media, but I began to find all of it boring. I had the urge to do more, I wanted to write and be more creative.

I abandoned Social Media in favour of this outlet. I found the thing I needed.
I really enjoy meeting people from across the globe. Most of us speak the same language but our cultures are worlds apart and I love it!

I didn’t go shopping today, Sophie dropped off vegetables. I knew Joss was coming up and staying over tonight so the evening meal was pre planned and pre cooked in the freezer!

Joss does a food shop for himself on Saturday morning so I’ll either go with him or furnish him with a list.

      Thank you, Carolyn. 🙂

  3. PPS…I’m so so SO sorry for my l-o-n-g comment! You get me thinking about so many good things, I just have to engage you in conversation! 🙂
I really should reinstate/reinact my silly WP New Year’s Resolutions and find a way to leave short comments. :-/

    1. I thoroughly enjoy your comments! And all your emojis! Our lovely friend Brian loved that about you too. I heard all about you before I’d even met you. 🙂

      1. Oh I do hope so and what a good idea.
I almost contacted her myself. I’ve thought about Brian a lot lately.
The other day I tried to imagine what he would have said about Prince Harry standing down as a royal. He would have undoubtedly blamed Meghan’s influence!

    1. I think book reading on your iPad is more relaxing than reading lots of blogs and engaging in conversation. I ought to read more.
I am definitely going to try not to go online in the mornings until I’ve achieved/accomplished a few domestic tasks. If I shift my morning focus to something less stimulating I might not wake up quite as early as I do now.
Right now it’s 10:45 PM in the UK and I’m about to switch off my devices and get ready for bed!
Thank you, Lisa, hope you enjoy your bedtime reading in a few hours! 🙂

      1. I woke up over an hour ago, and after finishing my coffee I became bored so wrote in my journal instead of catching up with WordPress Reader. Today’s posts were already on the Scheduler. It’s a start. Thanks, Yvonne.

I suppose by the end of a such a busy day you were able to sleep like a log, did not have nightmares of not reading other’s posts and wondered whatever got into you for accomplishing so much on a few hours less sleep. Congrats. :0 As for me zzzzzzzzzzzzz’s.
