This week the Wednesday word prompt over on Weekly Prompts, the site I share with my partner GC is Park/s (as in recreational).
We both enjoy a stroll in the park, weather permitting of course, and from the sound of his prompt Gerry’s favourite park area is a tranquil spot under the trees where he can sit quietly and be at one with nature.
Enough of that I’m kicking off with a fun family day out in Valley Gardens, Harrogate, just on the edge of the town centre!
Valley Gardens is a 17-acre English Heritage Grade II listed garden in Lower Harrogate, next to the Pinewoods woodlands. This is a super park and just look at what is on offer. Imagine an early morning/evening stroll or a summer day with kids in tow, activities galore, icecreams and a picnic; what more can a family ask for? There is also a pleasant walk from here to RHS Harlow Carr Gardens that I featured a couple of weeks ago.
Some two to three years ago, son Joss and I went Pokémon hunting in Valley Gardens with eldest daughter Victoria’s two children, third daughter Lizzy and her baby; all five of them seen here, with the boys bringing up the rear and the spectacled Pokémon Charmander hitching a ride!
Grandson Max was fascinated by the height of these unusual plants, Massive aren’t they?
One of my favourite parks is Tarnfield Park, known locally as Yeadon Tarn. I prefer to visit early in the day before it becomes busy because like Gerry, I too enjoy a little peace and tranquillity.
Situated two and a half miles from my home the Tarn is one of my favourite lakes to walk around. It has a children’s play park at one end that my youngest grandchildren enjoy (granddaughter Evie seen here), a picnic area, and an almost permanent ice cream van. To the north of the lake there is great view of the west end of one of the airport runways.
And as a bonus, depending on the wind direction, I am treated to a superb view of the aircraft as they land/take off.
