“Black and white creates a strange dreamscape that colour never can.” ~ Jack Antonoff.
This weekend the Photo Challenge on GC and my site Weekly Prompts is our monthly colour challenge, and this month the colour is Black.
It would have been very easy to move over to the dark side with this challenge, but that’s not my style.
The other day as I was on my way out, I spotted Hawaii the bull lounging in the afternoon sun next to one of the farm gates. I think this handsome brown bull looks rather good shown in black and white.
To complete today’s challenge, I’ve stayed with the farm theme and used a short video to show a little natural black with white; it also conveys my simple pleasure of a summer day here on the farm.
I wonder if you recognise the bird song – which bird could it be?

I love the video, Sue, it’s similar to around here. I have no idea which bird is singing. I am learning a lot since moving to Wales regarding bird life. I don’t think there’s anything more pleasing to the soul than listening to the birdsong on a beautiful summers evening.

I do love the singing birds in my courtyard every morning…as for your prompt, I’ve only a unfinished piece, that’s being put together by my monthly Sunday poetry group, as a joint effort… My contribution is the first three lines
BLACK NIGHT
The groaning of lustful lovers is timed out.
Even the yapping canines
are unusually quiet.
Embraced in the arms
of my double happiness,
I give thanks for night’s arrival.
Before you,
when every corner was ink black
and the world around
soundless
then was I most deeply troubled.
Night,
it’s not always black, you know.

Beautiful prompt. Now don’t ask me about birds…Knowing birds should be my next project. That could be a weaver bird or kingfisher but a fisher in a farm is hard.A woodpecker is much louder…Well, not that I know how sparrows sound like but which birds wake us up in the morning? And don’t say the cock…hahahahaha

Glad you liked it. Never seen a kingfisher up here although we do have a stream and two large field ponds. The neighbour even has a lake! The bird is a curlew! Thank you Hussein for your comments🙂

Very well thank you. Why perfectly innocent comments end up in the Spam folder remains a mystery!

LOVE the video!! I think they would like the stone wall a bit lower! Singing birds are a treat to my ears. And those beautiful cows chew quieter than some people I know ! Lol.
Hawaii would look handsome no matter how he was photographed. He looks a bit regal I think.
As much as I love color pictures, black & white remains my favorite. It makes you focus on all the detail you would otherwise miss because you see the colors, say, “How beautiful” and never really see anything else.
Great choice for your prompt Sue.

How wonderful is this?! I think I could get used to watching the cow every day. So very bucolic. Wonderful choice for black & white. Yes, Hawaii looks most handsome in those colors.

I do like black & white photo’s
They look such gentle creatures in that video clip, I couldn’t hear any bird song had my volumn turned up fully too. Boiught some new speakers last week in the hope of hearing more too

It is very high pitched and is the curlew. If you google curlew bird song you might hear it clearer than the one I recorded on my phone video.I understand that high pitch sounds are often the ones to disappear first when nerve damage due to excess noise has occurred.
I love cows, their breath smells so good, a lovely earthy, grassy smell. They are such curious, friendly creatures and are brilliant at manicuring trees and bushes, even when you didn’t them want them trimming! 🙂
Thank you Brian. Oh, how are you feeling?

I can’t say that I’ve ever been and had a sniff of their breath Sue, so I’ll just take your word for it.
I’ve not been feeling very well at all these past couple of weeks, seeing the cardiologist Thursday, He’ll probably tell me ‘ve got a crook ticker. Again
