Display is the weekend photo challenge on Weekly Prompts the site I share with my partner GC.
My choices for this challenge are photographs that I took at Harewood House a few days before Christmas 2018.
Harewood House is the home of the eighth Earl and Countess of Harewood (pronounced Harwood) and is a mere fifteen-minute drive from my home.
The Christmas exhibition/display was a celebration of the 1920s, with a focus on Christmas 1929, the year Princess Mary became Countess of Harewood.
A little royal history – 1922 – Princess Mary, the great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria, daughter of King George V and Queen Mary and sister of the Duke of Windsor (formerly King Edward VIII) marries Viscount Lascelles, the elder son of the fifth Earl of Harewood.
October 1929 – Upon the death of his father, Viscount Lascelles becomes the sixth Earl of Harewood. Two years later Princess Mary, now the Countess of Harewood receives the title Princess Royal from her father King George V.
Visiting Harewood House is one of my great pleasures, sauntering around the house, admiring the beautiful artwork and the most splendid furniture that has been passed down through the generations, such as below, and all the while remembering the rich history is a delightful experience.
My second photo is the Cake exhibition in the Grand Dining Room. Have you ever seen anything so decadent and splendid?
