“The story of becoming beautiful isn’t about the ugly duckling becoming a swan; it is about the ugly duckling realising it was a swan all along.” ~ Leta Greene
At the start of 2019, my partner GC and I introduced a monthly Colour Challenge for our site Weekly Prompts, and for the month of June, the colour is White!
Towards the end of March, during one of my regular strolls around a favourite lake I was most fortunate to be privy to a wonderful sight – A pair of beautiful white swans building a nest. I feel privileged to have witnessed this view.
Each swan worked tirelessly; the male tugged and pulled up reeds from the water’s edge and carefully placed them next to the female swan, in turn, the female picked up the reeds and diligently began forming their new nest; what teamwork!
Swimming close by was a group of youngsters from last year and still sporting a few dusky brown feathers.
The nest is now hidden from view by tall grass and reeds and is fenced off. The Cygnets are either well hidden or not born yet, however; I did manage to spot a couple of very new ducklings in the conservation area.

Alternatively, why not sit back and watch the ballet!

I always love to see Swans. We have a few on a lake not too far from us. Their presence always seems to lift the mood.

Just so lovely photos. They do make you smile as long as they are not chasing you.

Thank you very much, I was so fortunate to see the nest building. I understand they are very protective of their young, that apart, the ones on this lake don’t appear to be worried by the presence of humans. Probably because so many people feed them!
