“Deja Moo! The feeling that you’ve been here before!” ~ unknown
This is a second response to GC and my Weekly Prompts word-prompt Anticipation.
Last week I wrote The Lonely Furrow and told about the Bovine Vandals, the young heifers that were banished after causing havoc here at my small farm. Today I write to give you an update on the delinquent bovines.
The youngsters were taken back to Richard’s farm, fences were mended (in more ways than one), and I waited in anticipation for the next truck of livestock to arrive, and all the while wondering what Richard would bring. A couple of days later I found out when some twenty plus sheep exited the truck. I watched them file out one by one and exclaimed in disappointment “What No lambs!”
It turned out that these sheep are some of the female lambs from last year and are now part of the breeding stock, they will meet with the Tups (Rams) in the autumn.
So imagine my joy when a couple of days ago the cattle truck turned up, heralding the return of the young heifers! “Excellent, this is more like it, let the fun begin!“
Shortly afterwards a landrover and trailer pulled into the top field, and Hawaii Five-O made his grand entrance. Hawaii Five-O is so named because he is bull number five!
A little further down the field, the delinquent heifers noticed his arrival, and with a purpose similar to teenagers who’ve just spotted a pop star, they came hurtling up the field en masse, anticipation perhaps? Hawaii is here not simply for the lush grazing that is offered, his presence is to provide these young heifers with a little personal attention and turn them into first-time mums! And with his head raised Hawaii does what all good bulls do he sniffs and tastes the air to search out a young lady on heat!
Such a Pretty Heifer
