Don’t Fence Me In

Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above
Don’t fence me in
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love

This weekend the photo challenge from Weekly Prompts, the site I share with my partner GC. is Fences. This is my own response to our challenge.

Copy of horses don't fence me in

We’re eating our way out!

Lamb don't fence me in

Me too!

Cows don't fence me in

Is this the border wall?

Growing my way out!

Many thanks to  The Diary of a Country Bumpkin for sowing the seed for our challenge.

    1. Julie, I can’t stop singing it either!
It’s surprising what’s out there when you start to look around
The seed of fences and gates was already sown in my head for a prompt. We decided to go with gates. Then I just happened to spot a dilapidated fence, changed tack, went with fences and we used the picture on Weekly Prompts.

Perfect images for your prompt. That stone wall is the only “border wall” I want to see! Love the expressions on their faces. Fun post Sue.

PS: I’ll be singing this song for days now!!

    1. Would you like the remaining verses Ginger?
This stone wall frequently loses its top layer thanks to the nosey cows, though these ones were young heifers. I’m surprised its still standing after all these years of kids scrambling over it and cows scratching their necks!
Thank you for your comments Ginger. 🙂

I’ll pass on the remaining verses Sue. Apparently it’s not enough for my old brain to keep running through first verse of Don’t Fence Me In, it’s added Home On The Range!! I can only imagine it will include Happy Trails To You! 🎶 🎼 🎸

    1. Thank you Maureen.
The horses are in the fields over the lane opposite us. There are six of them and all chew the fences. Horses chew wood because of poor diet or because at some stage in their lives they were alone, bored or stressed. These appear to be fed well in winter so I can only assume it’s one of the latter. Seems odd that they all do it, so maybe some of it is learned behaviour. I do enjoy watching them running around, they’re very friendly too.

  2. Beautiful photos to illustrate your topic on Fences. By the way, I tried to comment a second time (in another post) after my first comment. My second comment was rejected with an error message. I faced this problem with a few other blogs using WordPress theme. Its like I can only comment once a day on a WordPress blog. Perhaps it is a bug.

    1. Just had another thought. Was your blocked comment here onNan’s farm or was it on Weekly Prompts?
The challenge/prompt pages on Weekly Prompts allow pingbacks but normal comments are disabled. They are allowed on the How To Page and Talk to Us.
