The Gate of the Year

” I need to start eating more healthily, but first I need to eat all the junk food in the house so it’s not there to tempt me anymore!” ~ unknown.

Over on our site, Weekly Prompts the midweek word-prompt is  RESOLUTIONS  and we have published a day earlier than usual.

GC and I asked our readers to tell us if they usually keep to their New Year Resolutions. This is my personal response to the prompt.

Time and time again the past has shown me that being resolute is not my strong point, at least not where New Year Resolutions are concerned. It’s like drinking wine, you finish the third glass, and then suddenly remember you only intended to have one. This is so typical of me, but nonetheless, I will, with you as my witness, make a declaration of my good intentions!

  • Drink less wine
  • Eat less cheese
  • Take more walks
  • Lose weight (should follow if I stick to the three above, right?)
  • Get up earlier (not the same as wake up earlier)
  • Learn something new
  • Visit somewhere new
  • Edit my wardrobe
  • Spring clean my computer (files etc)

And finally – Do not leave my fingers in neat bleach for any length of time unless I’m intentionally trying to remove my fingerprints… again!

So, what about you, are you ready to open the gate of the year and set forth? I certainly am! Happy 2019 Everyone! The gate of the year

Minnie Louise Haskins (1875 – 1957) If interested in the remainder of the poem  read it here.

    1. No one ever believes the ones I make, but the intention’s there, whether or not there’s enough will is anyone’s guess! Good idea about the junk food, at least we’ll go down happy and high. I’m stock piling medication! Happy New Year to you too Andrew!

  2. Must admit when I was reading that poem I thought the last line after trod gladly into the night was going to read “And got hit by a runaway bus!” Ah well;
    Have a jolly good year Sue and don’t worry about resolutions, they get you nowhere, enjoy life as it is and all will be well 😀
