A little snippet

“I love free speech. I also love ignore, mute and block!” ~ debethlynch.gq

In the UK, my home county of Yorkshire is known as God’s Own Country!

Recently, when I travelled a little further north west and crossed over into the county of Cumbria, I was surprised to find that even my mobile network provider had noticed I’d left the country, God’s Own Country that is, therefore, anything outside of it must be abroad!

You’re probably expecting a text about roaming charges – but no! You’re in one of our Roam-free destinations so you can now use the minutes, texts & data from your plan while abroad to stay in contact with friends & family back in the UK (or any of our Roam-free destinations) at no extra cost. For info and terms see http://www.vodafone.co.uk/travellingabroad. Stay safe while you’re abroad – for emergency services call 112.

POST SCRIPT: Due to some argument from the Australians  (see comments) I offer here a little more proof of Yorkshire’s claim to God’s own Country! Gods-Own-Country_poster

The film was shot in Yorkshire, specifically around the Silsden area of Keighley in West Yorkshire, with some other scenes being shot in Keighley Bus Station and Airedale General Hospital with Haworth and Otley also featuring as backdrops for the film.

Otley of course is ten minutes down the road from me and also home to daughter Sophie!

  1. That’s a fancy passport Sue, hmmm, not sure about the colour nor the heading !! However thank you for the information link, and it’s a great reminder for me to check up on my provider before I go to China in October.

    1. I found the picture via Google. This is the colour of British passports and the emblem is the white rose of Yorkshire. The God’s own country snippet is true, though I do believe parts of India also lay claim! 🙂

    1. Sure is Margo! I think seeing as we were on the coast of the Irish Sea, Vodafone got a little mixed up. Something of a concern though if charges had occurred.

    1. Both countries are mistaken! When God chose a little piece of temporary heaven it was to Yorkshire he came!

And did those feet in ancient time,
      Walk upon Englands
      mountains green:
And was the holy Lamb of God,
      On Englands pleasant pastures seen!

      And did the Countenance Divine,
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
      And was Jerusalem builded here,
      Among these dark Satanic Mills?

      Bring me my Bow of burning gold;
Bring me my Arrows of desire:
Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of fire!

I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand:
      Till we have built Jerusalem,
In Englands green & pleasant Land. ~ William Blake (1804)

      1. Can’t see Yorkshire pudding mentioned there Sue- unless it’s something to do with those satanic Mills that are getting in the way 👿 I’ll have to discuss this with Lesley 😛

      2. Leslie daren’t disagree with me! Anyway Brian, what more proof can I offer. 2. That film poster blurb is strong enough proof, Sue. 😄 And do I wish that Robert Blake would have been heeded about building Jerusalem in England! That would have spared the Middle East a lot of its present-day troubles 😊 Enjoy a happy weekend!
