What’s for breakfast?

Piglet – When you wake up in the morning Pooh, what’s the first thing you say to yourself?

What’s for breakfast? What do you say piglet?

Piglet – I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?

Pooh nodded thoughtfully, It’s the same thing! ~ A.A. Milne Typically, here in the UK, I tend to use three of the main supermarkets, Sainsbury’s, Morrison’s and Asda. Each one is approximately a ten-minute drive from my home but in different directions. For me, it depends on where else I need to be and whether or not I need another nearby store.

The other day I shopped in Morrison’s supermarket where I picked up a large pack of oranges. The sign said Ideal for juicing. What it failed to say was Machine not needed!

This morning, having woken up with a yearning for a glass of fresh orange I set about cutting in half four oranges. After switching on the machine, I gently pressed each orange onto the rotating squeezer. The oranges were almost too perfect for squeezing and so soft and juicy I could easily have used my hand alone. The juice ended up down my sleeve, up my arm and down the front of my clean shirt!

The juice was refreshingly delicious, but next time I think I’ll wear scrubs!

Not only did I wake up with a juice thirst, I also craved sausages with bacon, mushroom and beans (I don’t eat egg).

I had a pack of eight sausages in the freezer, but I only wanted two, and they were impossible to separate. So, after a short microwave de-frost, I ended up oven-cooking all eight of them! The question now is, what do I do with the other six?

Then it was the turn of the bacon, two rashers that cooked perfectly in a pan with a low-fat spray.

Mushroom talk

I sliced my mushrooms and added those to the pan, but I do believe they were magic ones because I could have sworn I heard them talking to me!

I justified eating a cooked breakfast with the knowledge that I wouldn’t  be needing lunch today, though I could well be needing a couple more cups of Yorkshire tea.

  •  Roll the orange to and fro by pressing down with the palm of your hand – makes it easier to peel.
  • Dried orange peel is a super fire-lighter.
  • When freezing a pack of fresh sausages,  separate and place each one on a small tray and freeze overnight. In the morning pack into a freezer bag and put them back in the freezer.
  • Tip to self – follow own advice!
