“Birthdays are good for your health! Studies have shown than people who have more birthdays live longer!”
“Age and glasses of wine should never be counted!”
The other night during a conversation with my friend, I complained about getting older and mentioned that I wished my body looked younger. I probably made this remark because I have a birthday coming up in a couple of days and I’m beginning to realise I’m no longer as young as I’d like to be, and everything as they say is heading south!
No doubt, given that I’m such a needy soul, I was probably fishing for contradictions and compliments!
His response was unexpected to say the least and I didn’t have an inkling. ‘Well, don’t forget to shave your legs!’ My response was… What? I always shave my legs, why would I forget to shave my legs? It would be like leaving the house undressed, or without make-up.
I’m still puzzling on his remark, is he expecting something to happen to me, am I about to pop my clogs any day soon? Perhaps it’s something like my grandma used to say… Always make sure you’re wearing clean underwear because you never know when you might have an accident!” That’s another thing I would never be without, and under these new circumstances perhaps I ought to buy a couple of new sets just in case!
So, with a birthday coming up, Tuesday if you’re interested, I’ve made a new resolution, a birthday one. I am what I am, you are what you are, so accept it. That particular resolution is for me alone to take note of. But seeing as I’m here, I might say a few more things that apparently, I’m allowed to say now that I’m getting old!
I’m told that retirement means pleasing yourself, I like that. So, if I say something to someone, speak a few home truths and they don’t like it and take offence, an offence that definitely wasn’t intended, all I can say is Tough, take me or leave me, your choice!
PS. Just in case you’re wondering, I did receive the contradictions and the compliments, phew… what a relief!
