A Day of Mystery

Written in response to the Daily Word-prompt ‘Knackered’ (And there’s a word I wasn’t expecting!)

Sometimes the very best times to be had in life are when you least expect them.

I had a special request for today’s post.

It began when I asked my daughter if she’d like to do anything special for her birthday next week. She answered with a request for a surprise, a mystery day out.

She went on to suggest I write a post today about another mystery day out that we enjoyed a few years ago.

It was during one summer when I suggested to the family that we should all get together and enjoy a day out. Those who were able to take a day off accepted my invitation to a ‘ Mystery Day Out.’

There was great excitement when the family including the children arrived at my house, They’d been asked to bring wellington boots and everyone was eager to know where we were going but I refused to tell. Instead I issued small emergency maps with step by step instructions and only to be used if they lost sight of the car in front.

It was towards the end of the morning when we finally set off and my car with its seven seats was full of children. It was the lead car and my husband who had chosen to drive had no idea where we were going, meaning he had to rely on me as his navigator. Knowing my sense of direction as he did, allowing me to be the navigator was something he would never normally do and I was asked several times “Are you sure you know where we are going?” Obviously I was sure, I’d written and printed the maps hadn’t I!

Eventually, we set off towards the hills of the Yorkshire Dales where I had planned a lunchtime stop.

The views along the route are beautiful especially those surrounding the Lindley Wood Reservoir.

Finally we arrived at our mystery destination.

Thanks for sharing this adventure Susan.

Looked like you were all having an exciting adventure.

I usually get lost even with my GPS navigator which most of the time is not up to date.

    Enjoy the day love. 🙂

    1. I don’t mind getting lost, a little bit of unexpected adds more pleasure to the day, especially if you’re not alone. Not as enthusiastic if I’m on my own. Secretly, it was a relief that I managed to get them there without detour!
